Similar in design to the two-ounce Celebration Corsage stamp, it can be used on RSVP envelopes often enclosed with wedding invitations. It is also perfect for party invitations, thank-you notes, announcements, or any other correspondence. For centuries, boutonnieres-or buttonhole flowers, as they were called in Britain-were a staple of a well-dressed man's outfit. For most of the 20th century, a single flower pinned to a lapel or inserted into a jacket buttonhole was part of a sophisticated, debonair man's wardrobe. Today, boutonnieres, still very fashionable, are worn at weddings by the groom, groomsmen, father of the groom, and best man, and at other special occasions, including proms, anniversaries, retirement parties, or military memorial services. Art director Ethel Kessler designed the stamp. The boutonniere was arranged by floral designer Carol Caggiano and photographed by Rene Comet. Description

A favorite with gardeners and florists, ferns range from tiny moss-like plants to giants as tall as trees. The ferns featured on the stamps are five of the approximately 380 different species found in North America. Each of the five stamps depicts a close-up photograph of a different species of fern. The shapes and textures of the fronds stand out against a stark white background, highlighting the placement of the leaflets along each fern's stem. The name of each fern-autumn fern, Goldie's wood fern, soft shield fern, Fortune's holly fern, or painted fern-is placed vertically in capital letters along one edge of the stamp. Art director Phil Jordan created the stamp art by choosing five images from among dozens of existing pictures by photographer Cindy Dyer. After Dyer isolated the fronds in her photos, providing a white background, Jordan tightened the focus on each to fit within the stamp borders. He rotated some of the fronds to provide visual interest and oriented them in relation to one another to form a unified whole. The Ferns stamps add elegance to envelopes and are an exquisite continuation of the U.S. Postal Service's tradition of offering stamps that feature beautiful plants. Forever stamps are always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce price. The piece is presented in an elegant silver-toned frame with gold accents. A dust cover and sawtooth hanger are included on the back for easy display. This listing is for 100 total stamps, in folded strips cut from a longer roll.

Description

On May 15, 1918, in the midst of World War I, a small group of Army pilots delivered mail along a route that linked Washington, Philadelphia, and New York-initiating the world's first regularly scheduled airmail service. The United States Post Office Department took charge of the "U.S. Air Mail Service" later that summer, operating it from August 12, 1918, through September 1, 1927. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the beginning of airmail service, the Postal ServiceTM is issuing two stamp designs in 2018. The first stamp, United States Air Mail Blue, commemorates the pioneering spirit of the brave Army pilots who initiated airmail service on May 15, 1918. Rendered in blue and printed in intaglio, this stamp features a drawing of the type of plane typically used in the early days of airmail, a Curtiss JN-4H biplane. A second stamp, identical to the first except for being rendered in red, will commemorate the beginning of airmail delivery through the U.S. Post Office Department on August 12, 1918. That stamp, United States Air Mail Red, will be issued later this summer. For airmail service to succeed in the early days of flight, the Post Office had to develop profitable routes, such as between New York and Chicago, and to establish the infrastructure for safely making night flights. It set up lighted airfields and erected hundreds of airmail guide beacons between New York and San Francisco so that by 1924 regularly scheduled, transcontinental flying was possible, day and night. Airmail delivery, daily except on Sundays, became part of the fabric of the American economy and spurred the growth of the nation's aviation industry. The stamp designer and typographer was Dan Gretta; Greg Breeding was the art director.

Description

Development of what was to become the Peace rose began with a famous rose-breeding family in mid- 1930s France. In 1935, the Meilland family had crossbred hundreds of roses hoping to create new commercially viable varieties. One of the crosses yielded a unique bloom with yellow petals delicately edged with pink, which they named Madame A. Meilland. Years later, as World War II escalated in Europe and France was threatened with invasion, two packages of the new rose's budwood were sent to plantsmen in Germany and Italy. A third package was entrusted to the U.S. consul, who took it with him as he left France promising to send it on to American grower Conard-Pyle. This U.S. breeder cultivated the rose and sent cuttings to other growers to test the plant in various climatic zones and soil conditions. The trials were so successful that the rose was introduced on April 29, 1945, and made available for sale to the public. With war still raging across the globe, American growers selected a new name for the rose as a reflection of the world's most fervent desire: peace. Peace has become one of the most popular roses in history. It revolutionized hybrid tea roses with its unique coloring, hardiness, and disease resistance. Peace has been the parent of hundreds of popular hybrids, and millions of the original variety have been planted in gardens worldwide. Art director Ethel Kessler designed the stamp, which features an existing photograph taken by Richard C. Baer. Peace Rose is being issued as a Forever stamp in booklets of 20.
